benchKeeper has been designed and developed to be a secure, distributed application. This means that a single benchKeeper installation can be used by a single user on their personal computer, by a group of researchers in a lab, or by multiple researchers in multiple labs.
If you are planning on licensing a version of benchKeeper in a multi-user environment, it is VERY important to understand the concept of "connections", as benchKeeper licensing is based on the number of concurrent connections for each module.
The benchKeeper suite has been designed as a modular based software application. In order to use one of these modules, a user has to connect to it using the client's user interface. When the user connects into the module that they wish to use, the server checks to see if it has any unused (licensed) connections, and if so, allows the connection, thereby reducing the number of available connections by one. If no connection is available, the user is not allowed to connect to the application.
The default (minimal) benchKeeper license includes 3 connections into the system. This means that a maximum of 3 people are allowed to be connected at any one time to any of the modules.
Additional licenses can be purchased in order to allow more than 3 people to be connected at the same time, making it more effective in larger environments.
